Ira’s* childhood was filled with love and joy, but her world was shattered at the age of 11 when her father passed away. The loss deeply impacted her mother, leaving her unable to care for Ira and her younger brother.
When a neighbor offered to help, Ira thought hope had arrived. But that hope quickly turned to horror when she was forced into sex trafficking at just 12 years old. For seven long months, Ira endured unimaginable trauma. Then, her aunt rescued her and brought her to an Atlas Free Network Member's safe home—a safe place where Ira began to heal from her trauma.
Today, Ira is a vibrant 17-year-old who radiates strength and kindness. She’s thriving in school and excelling in Mixed Martial Arts, earning titles at district, state, and national championships.
She was even selected to represent India at an international competition in Indonesia, and although visa complications kept her from competing, Ira’s confidence and determination have only grown. She’s healing, resilient, and full of hope as she pursues her dreams for the future.
When you take action in the fight against sex trafficking, you help create stories of strength and resilience just like this all around the world.
